DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column icons_position=”left”][vc_column_text]The GNYC STEM Subcommittee welcomes you to Spring Break Stem Camp at the Alpine Scout Camp. \nDuring the spring break week\, scouts wishing to keep their brains in high gear and possibly earn one of the Nova Awards can come to STEM Camp. Beginning Monday April 13th at 12pm check-in and ending at 10 am on Saturday the 18th with graduation. Up to 40 youth from GNYC can come challenge themselves and work with others as our staff of energized counselors\, mentors and a cadre of outside professionals introduce them to a variety of science\, technology\, engineering and math. Some merit badges will be available guest presenters will be on hand in a variety of scientific\, technology and related fields. Some previous years presenters included the Lamont Dougherty Earth Observatory\, the NJ Civil Air Patrol\, NJ State Police Aviation\, Amateur Astronomers\, Kings County Repeater Club and Sterling Hills Mines. This year’s theme will focus on criminology and forensic science. We will not be covering climbing at a natural rock face. After successful completion\, participants could receive a certificate of training as a BSA Climbing Instructor or Instructor in Training. \nA Level 2 Instructor must be at least 21 years of age and is allowed to direct a climbing/rappelling program. \nA Level 1 Instructor must be at least 18 years of age and can assist in running a climbing/rappelling program. \nAn Instructor in Training must be at least 16 years of age and can assist in running a climbing rappelling program. \n  \nThis course is intended for any interested person who meets the entry requirements: \nGreat attitude\nWillingness to work with scouts and scouters\nAt least 16 years of age.\nPrerequisite knowledge of Climbing basics is helpful but not required. \n  \nThe course will begin at 8:00am on Saturday\, March 21 at Reeves Lodge at Camp Alpine\, Alpine NJ.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″ icons_position=”left”][vc_column_text]Hands-on learning at the indoor wall as well as the outdoor tower will take place all day Saturday.
